Ba Ria name is familiar with the people of Southern east for a long time (used as the province’s name before).

Ba Ria town located in the center of province, the north border on Chau Duc district and a part of Tan Thanh district, the south border on Vung Tau city, the east border on Long Dat district, the west border on Tan Thanh District. Its area is 90.57km 2, population about 80,000 people in 2000, with 9 administrative units including 2 communes and 9 wards.

Located in the center of province with gas path crossing at, therefore the town has some strong point such as: transportation, trading. It will be the administrative center of province for developing industry types in using gas as fuel, material.

Almost the provincal transportation routes such as national highway 51, 55, 56 are crossing at Ba Ria town and are highway route Vung tau – Ho Chi Minh city, railway route Vung Tau – Bien Hoa in the future. The town has invested and given trade center and fresh market in activity, upgrading the bus station. On the road to Vung tau, Long Hai, Binh Chau, tourists can stop for a rest and shopping.

Although there are not many famous landscapes, beaches as other districts, but Ba Ria town is one of the leading site of revolution move with historial monuments such as: Round House, Long Phuoc Tunnel. This site kept the army and people of town’s glorious victories in mind in 2 resistance wars.

Developing industry, small scale industry is prior tendency for the town. This site has formed Ba Ria electrical energy manufactory using gas as fuel with capacity of 327.8MW, carrying out investment for Wartsila electric energy manufactory with capacity of 120MW. Along with Phu My, Ba Ria will be the big energy power center of province as well as Vietnam .

In addition, the provincal biggest tap-water processing system has been forming in Ba Ria. There are 2 underground water and water manufactories with capacity of 45,000m 3/day, carrying out investment for Da Den water manufactory with capacity of 100,000m 3/day. Building material production has also been developing in the town including adobes, stone exploitation, building concrete, tar concrete, emulsion, tar, building mechanical.

On export, there are 1 shoes manufactory with 2 workshops, 1 frozen seafood processing manufactory, 1 garment enterprise attracting thousands workers in Ba Ria.

Along with industry, the town will develop strongly services such as: trading service, transportation traffic, houses, telecommunication.

On agriculture, the town has development conditions for planting of vegetables, fresh flowers, fruit trees, breeding cattles…in Long Huong, Hoa Long, Long Phuoc.
