Ba Ria – Vung Tau is not only tourism place where is offered with multiform rich natural resources, many nice beach and primitive forests that collected between cultures: local non-object (festival, customs, practices, belief) filled with sea cultural colour and culture of religions which all made in many cultural constructions, historial places.

Beliefs

As the same other national locals, Ba Ria – Vung Tau always filled with folk cultural colour of “existence culture”(farm, fisherman, hndicraft...), “treatment culture”(treatment, ward’s career organization, ceremony, holiday activities…), “morality culture”(relations of grandparents and parents, neighborhood…), “belief culture”(folk belief, original belief…) “art culture” (language, folk art, folk-song, old story, painting, architecture…). Especially “belief culture” is expressed full with “Nghinh Ong” festival of the edge of sea’s residents as: Phuoc Hai ward, Phuoc Tinh Ward, Long Hai ward (Long Dat District), Thang Nhat temple, Thang Nhi temple, Thang Tam temple (Vung Tau city)… Typically is Nghinh Ong festival in Thang Tam temple which is held on 16th, 17th, 18th of lunar August yearly for worshiping sacred object helping fishermen on days in the sea.

Dinh Co festival (in Long Hai) expressed belief available in people about the kind girl who died in storm and was buried by Long Hai people, named respectedly as “Long Hai Lady God”. Yearly, The festival is ussually held within 3 days (10th, 11th, 12thof lunar February), all day and night.

Beside, Ba Ria –Vung Tau’s residents still have custom worshiping heros who contributed to build and protect our country as: Tran Hung Dao, Hung Vuong, Thanh Hoang… All cultures above made in people’s architecture with full national characters of Dinh Co Temple, Thang Tam sacred Temple, Long Son Big House.

Religion

Ba Ria - Vung Tau collected many biggest religions worldwide with the number of religioners making up more than 50% of provincal population. In that, Buddhism, Catholicism, cao đài, Protestant which are issued legal activity with status of social organization with some religions and others as: Vietnamese Tinh Do Cu Si Phat Do, Buu Son Ky Huong Buddhism, Baptist Protestant, Phuc Lam Christian, Truyen Giao Christian.

Buddhism

According to researched document, Buddhism is carried on missionary work in Ba Ria – Vung Tau earliest by the Northern residents, Central part’s residents in Vietnam at the beginning of 17th century. When they came bringing their original religion and built

Pagoda.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau Buddhism still filled with original of big Buddhism centers as Dai Tung Lam Pagoda (Phu My Ward, Tan Thanh District), Pagoda area beside Thi Vai mountain (Hoi Bai Ward, Tan Thanh District), Niet Ban Tinh Xa, Thien Vien Chon Khong, Thich Ca Phat Dai (Vung Tau City), the areas of Thien Thai mountain Pagoda (Tam An Ward, Long Dat District), Hon Mot Pagoda (Phuoc Hai Ward, Long Dat District)… Some place is historical monument, famous pagoda as: Thich Ca Phat Dai, Niet Ban Tinh Xa, Linh Son Co Tu.

Catholicism

The second big religion of province is carried on missionary work in Ba Ria – Vung Tau between 18th century (according to Du Dia Chi book – 1947), but only developing quickly from 1950 to 1960.
At present, 14 big churchs almost concentrated by highway 51 from Tan Thanh to Vung Tau. Beside there are other areas as: Phuoc Tinh (Long Dat District), Binh Gia (Chau Duc District). Some church has been built more than 100 years in Dat Do areas (Long Dat District), Ba Ria Town, Vung Tau City. Famous churchs as: Duc Me Church, Bai Dau Church, Kito Statue.

Cao Dai

There 3 factions: Cao Dai Tay Ninh, Cao Dai Ban Chinh Dao Ben Tre, Cao Dai Truyen Giao Mien Trung.
Cao Dai Tay Ninh is carried on missionary work in Ba Ria – Vung Tau in 1940, concentrate mainly in Dat Do, Suoi Nghe, Vung Tau, Ba Ria.

Protestant

Protestant is carried on missionary work in Viet Nam in 1911, 1930 - 1940 in Vung Tau and developing strongly in 1950 – 1960, mainly Vietnamese Protestant faction about 4000 religioners at present.
Religion belief of Ba Ria -Vung Tau always accompany with the province’s development, legal executing according to government’s management.
